Face Fit Testing

HSE Regulations and the Approved Codes of Practice recommend that each wearer of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) should undergo a Quantitative Face Fit Test. This ensures that the wearer is using a mask that provides adequate protection to ensure that the performance of the mask depends on a good contact between the wearer's skin and the seal of the mask.

RespiSafe (UK) Ltd uses a TSI Portacount Tester to provide a Face Fit Testing Service. Our engineers will ensure the mask is being worn correctly and provide any advice required.

The test consists of several exercises and head movements to be completed to ensure a correct facial seal is obtained by the wearer. Each test takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. A separate test is required for each facepiece used by the wearer.

Frequency of testing is dependent upon whether the wearer loses or gains weight, or has any dental surgery which changes the contours of the face. Otherwise, we strongly recommend that each wearer undertakes an annual test to ensure the employees are working safely in their environment.
